BE THE
ONE GENERATION
to end destructive cycles
Project
One Generation is a multi-faceted Aboriginal youth training
initiative rooted on the principle that 'it only takes
one generation to break a cycle'. The cycle can be anything
from addiction and abuse to pollution and racism.
The programs created under Project One Generation encourage
the viewer to 'be the one' generation to break a cycle
that adversely affects families, communities and the
planet.

Project
One Generation Workshops
Media training programs, facilitated by Big Soul Productions,
engage Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal media professionals
to mentor Aboriginal youth and adults in film production
to use it as a vehicle to convey the message.
2006
PSA WORKSHOP
In March 2006, the first filmmaking workshop
took place in Toronto. 14 Native youth from Grades 5-8
wrote, acted, directed and produced five public service
announcements over the course of five days. The PSA's
encourage the viewer to "BE THE ONE" generation to stop
smoking, listen to the voices of the youth, to stop
cruelty to animals, and to encourage cultural activity.
133
SKYWAY
In April 2006, 15 Aboriginal youth from the
greater Toronto area, aged 18-30 participated in the
production of a short film titled '133 Skyway'.
The film portrays the struggles faced by homeless Aboriginal
people in Toronto. Starring Derek Miller in his acting
debut, the film was nominated at the Yorkton Short Film
Festival for ABORIGINAL PRODUCTION - ,
PERFORMANCE - MALE, DEREK MILLER, and
ORIGINAL MUSIC - FICTION, DEREK

The trainees
worked with a professional crew and were paid for their
efforts. Many have indicated that they will seek further
experience to work towards careers in the industry.
